On January 4th, The Elaine Bacon Literacy Program joined International Neighbors for a potluck luncheon at Puti Akbar’s house to celebrate the New Year and share good friends and good food. Countries represented in addition to United States (Denise, Beth, Jan, Candy, Donna, Amy, and Cindy) were Brazil (Aline and mother-in-law Rita), China (Xiaolei/Victor), Japan(Miyoko), and Indonesia (Puti).

The International Neighbors contingent held a planning session to fill in their upcoming meeting dates with a slate of exciting programs for 2024. Members shared their birthdays with one another and talked about their personal resolutions and goals for the New Year. Not surprisingly, vows to improve health and get more exercise topped the list.
International Neighbors meets every Thursday morning during the year at 10:00 am at Portage Lake United Church near the university. All are welcome. Below is the slate of programs for the upcoming year.

Special thanks to Puti for opening her home for this occasion.

For help in learning English please ask Beth Flynn or Denise Heikinen about classes and available individual sessions. Anyone wishing to keep informed of EBLP or IN events, please email Beth at eflynn@mtu.edu and ask to be signed up to the e-list.

On behalf of the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program board and team, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a year of 2024 filled with laughter, love, and accomplishment. May your dreams take flight, and may you find the courage to chase them with unwavering determination!
Thank you for being part of our community. Here’s to a year of growth, joy, and endless possibilities!
