On March 7, 2025, the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program (EBLP) was honored to support a special Ramadan Storytime event at the Portage Lake District Library (PLDL). This engaging program introduced children and families to Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, reflection, and togetherness.

A Storytelling Experience Rooted in Culture and Tradition
Volunteers read books about Ramadan, helping children understand its significance through beautifully illustrated stories. Participants learned about key traditions such as fasting, prayer, charity, and Eid al-Fitr. The session encouraged curiosity and open conversation, making it a welcoming learning space.

Hands-On Activities and Cultural Exploration
Children created Ramadan lanterns, symbolizing light and hope, and a hijab try-on station allowed five adults to experience wearing traditional head coverings. The event was supported by five youth volunteers and three adult volunteers, with 10 children and five adults attending.

Building Bridges in the Community
EBLP is proud to support programs that promote literacy, cultural awareness, and inclusivity. We thank PLDL for hosting this event and look forward to more opportunities to celebrate diverse traditions.
