We’re excited to invite you to a special writing workshop hosted by the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program:

Journaling to Write a Memoir
A 90-minute session designed to help new writers begin capturing the stories that have shaped their lives.
Date: Friday, August 22
Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Portage Lake District Library West Conference Room
Instructor: Dr. Rehema Clarken
Dr. Rehema Clarken is a writer, educator, and the founder of Keweenaw Learning Center in Hancock, Michigan. With a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from Michigan Tech and international experience in teaching and academic leadership, she specializes in writing, English language learning, and student coaching. Rehema is also the author of the young adult fantasy novel Pyrrha’s Journey. Her workshops are known for being welcoming, creative, and deeply supportive of each learner’s voice.
Thanks to our Giving Tuesday funding, this workshop is FREE for all EBLP participants—including tutors, conversation partners, and students.
You’re also welcome to invite friends or family members outside of EBLP. The special discounted rate for guests is just $10 per person (regular price is $25).
What You’ll Learn:
- How to develop writing stamina in everyday life through journaling
- How to build a “story bank” of meaningful personal memories
- How much material it really takes to write a book
No matter what your English level is, just come and participate! Dr. Rehema has taught English as a Second Language (ESL) to more than a thousand students and knows how to work with learners of all levels. This session is for everyone.
Whether you’ve already started a memoir or are just beginning to consider writing one, this warm, interactive session will help you take the first steps toward telling your story.
Kindly inform Puti or send email to elainebaconliteracyprogram@gmail.com if you want to participate by August 20th at the latest.
