Dear Friends,

We are excited to invite you and your family to participate in the Keweenaw International Children’s Festival (KICF) hosted by Elaine Bacon Literacy Program! This event is supported by the funding from Keweenaw Community Foundation and 2025 Small Grants from Copper Shores.

This is a wonderful opportunity to share your culture, creativity, and stories with children and families from around the world.

What Individual or Families Will Do:

  • Create a display booth representing your country or culture (you will be assisted by the Youth Advisory Council to make the display booth).
  • Read aloud or perform (sing, dance, musical performance) for 15 minutes to children, sharing stories from your culture, family, or country.

Optional Activities:

  • Performance – a short dance or musical performance
  • Craft activity – share a hands-on cultural craft (this does not have to be done by a whole family. Let’s say you can do a watercolor painting workshop for 12+ – adults, it is also possible! – supplies covered and gift card)
  • Food sampling – prepare small tasting bites (savory or sweet) for festival attendees. Families participating in food sampling will receive allowance to cover ingredients and materials.

Guidelines for Food Samples:

  • Easy to cut and share.
  • Not too wet or saucy.
  • Can be savory or sweet.
  • Examples: finger sandwiches, mini pastries, skewers, cookies, or small tarts

Date & Location:
Portage Lake District Library – Saturday, 22 November 2025 | 10:30 AM – 2:00PM.
