All Elaine Bacon Literacy Program classes are free of charge. We welcome adults
whose native language is other than English, helping them improve their proficiency in
reading, speaking, and other communication skills.

Individual tutoring and group classes are available to help participants strengthen their
use of English. Group classes meet online using Zoom. Online classes were introduced
during the pandemic, and they have continued since then. One important benefit is that
they allow EBLP to serve students living in other cities or countries along with local
residents.

Beth Flynn offers two classes. The first class meets from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on
Tuesdays, and the second is held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesdays. Different
instructional materials are used in each class. To join or for more information, please
contact Beth directly at eflynn@mtu.edu

Please contact Jill Burkland or Randy Freisinger directly if you wish to join their class
on Zoom at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesdays. Their class focuses on speaking and listening.
You can reach Jill at jillburkland@gmail.com or Randy at rfreisi@mtu.edu.

As a supplement to group classes, EBLP offers individual tutoring to meet specific
needs or interests. We also can arrange for a conversation partner, someone who can
talk with students on an informal basis about once a week. This might include getting
acquainted with places in the area to walk, shop, or enjoy nature. Contact Jan Handler
at janet.r.handler@gmail.com to learn more about conversation partners.

EBLP Co-Directors Beth Flynn (eflynn@mtu.edu) and Denise Heikinen
(deniseheikinen@icloud.com) will be glad to discuss these options with interested
participants.
